Susan HooKong-Taylor
Composer Biography
Susan HooKong-Taylor has been a jazz musician for most of her life, and has been, for the last ten years (as she puts it) called out and called into a more committed, surrendered work with her music. As such, she has participated extensively in World Youth Day, 2002 in Toronto, co-writing the Song of the Cross and singing at the Papal Mass. She has worked alongside fellow musician Ana Da Costa, releasing I Will Praise and Follow You and very recently, a solo CD entitled Fiat. She works together with Ana Da Costa in the area of music ministry at such events as Proud to Be Catholic, Magnificat Breakfasts, and the Lift Jesus Higher Rally.As well, Susan is one of the Daughters of God, a group of 7 Catholic women singer/songwriters, who have released a CD (Daughter of God) through Oregon Catholic Press which endeavours to encourage Catholic women in their faith. Susan has been invited to participate in the capacity of liturgical musician and music minister at such events as the L.A. Religious Education Congress (2004), the North American Institute for Catholic Evangelization (NAICE, Cincinatti, 2006), and the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (Pittsburgh,2004). Susan teaches vocal music at St. Helens and Senhor Santo Cristo in downtown Toronto. She is married to Kyle Taylor and they have two children, Evan and Julia.
