Monica O'Brien
Composer Biography
Monica 'fell into' songwriting more than two decades ago when she was sharing a house with long time friend Trish Watts. At that time they were actively involved in Youth Ministry and recognised a need to present the Gospel in a relevant and contemporary way through music. Mon began contributing to the lyrical content and co-wrote a string a songs such as 'Summond by Love', 'A New Heart for a New World' and 'Canticle of Creation. Much of their writing was linked to conventions and youth events where they wrote theme songs to accompany the gatherings which included popular songs, 'Today is Our', 'One For Others, and 'Prophets of Hope'.
More recently Monica has teamed up with Gina Ogilvie to write spiritual and inspirational songs for personal reflection and community gatherings. Their latest album 'Gift of Grace' has been well received both locally and internationally. Monica and Gina wrote 'As One Voice' for the National As One Voice Music Conference which was held in Sydney in 2010.
"I have never really seen my self as a songwriter, but I think its time for me to acknowledge that God has made it possible for me to share my thoughts and feelings through song, and to be grateful that somewhere along the way others have found comfort, support and inspiration through this colaboration with my two precious friends, Trish and Gina."
